Of it wasn't for the fact I had the audio version of this book I may have given up on it. I felt that the beginning was just chapter after chapter of not needed information. It did nothin to further the story and seemed to be irrelevant to the story as a whole.
David was a engaging character who goes from little boy to more or less a man during his adventure in the other realm.
I got the feeling that this was just another way of a boy dealing with a death then crossing from child to adult through a sort of fairy tale world, it worked well and the adventures he had had him becoming more grown up.
I would have liked a little more description of the other realm, it seemed brushes over at times.
The crooked man was quite the character and was a little scary, I did feel that the author wanted it to be scary but held back for some reason. It would have made a really good horror novel.
All in all it was a good book and I did enjoy listening to it.
