I really wanted to like this book. After reading all the great reviews I thought wow that's got to be a real good book, but I personally didn't really enjoy it.
First the writing was perfect and the author did draw you into the story and the characters, I visualised the whole setting of Apollo Beach perfectly. The whole concept of the book was also great, it was a twist on the whole summer solstice and Kat finding out that she is enchanted and that enchantment comes from the summer solstice.
But I found it to be dragged out and at times I just wanted the author to get to the point, I was tiring of the constant will Kat be told the secret. I found the book to be a little like a teenagers diary, as the book seemed to be full of went shopping, met a guy, folks been secretive. I was waiting for something to happen and when I thought something was going to happen it didn't.
The character of Kat was your typical teenager who is dealing with her moms death and trying to deal with a grandmother she only just met who is keeping secrets from her till all is revealed on her 16th birthday. She was well written and I did like the character, I would have liked her to be a little more forceful with this grandmother she's never met.
I just found this book lacking, it just had something missing.
